What Is an Open Top Container?

An open top container is a versatile solution designed for shipping oversized, bulky, or irregularly shaped cargo that can’t fit through standard container doors. Instead of a solid roof, it features a removable tarpaulin cover, allowing cargo to be loaded from the top using cranes or lifting equipment — ideal for heavy industrial and construction materials.

How Cargo Is Protected

To keep goods safe from wind, rain, and theft, the container is covered with a durable tarpaulin secured by clamps and locking seals. Inside, lashing rings fix cargo in place to prevent movement during transport. Even if items protrude slightly above the container’s height, they remain protected under the cover.

Sizes and Capacity

Open top containers are available in two main sizes:
20ft Open Top: Capacity ~32.7 m³ / 1,155 cu ft — suitable for compact but heavy cargo.
40ft Open Top: Capacity ~66.7 m³ / 2,356 cu ft — perfect for long or tall equipment.

Common Uses

●Heavy machinery and equipment
●Steel pipes, beams, and bars
●Timber, logs, and glass panels
●Construction materials and scrap metal
●Coils, spools, and bulk raw goods
